All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17

Jesus emphatically calls for people's attention.  He would often say, "Listen!" or "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"  He desires for people to listen to His Words of Life, for they are living and active, beckoning us to fix our eyes on Him at all times.

The Scriptures say we, in our sinfulness, quickly stop to look and listen to other things.  We love to check our e-mail, listen to speeches, attend conferences, subscribe to blogs, have a gut feeling, remember lyrics, and check Twitter updates.  Somehow all the other voices, whether they're someone else's or our own, crowd out the one voice that's most important, that of Jesus.

And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
Colossians 1:18

For those in the church, we are to submit to Jesus as King.  He should be the one we listen to above all, for He gave us the Scriptures to reveal Himself and His Kingdom, us and our condition, and the world and its wickedness.

Our tendency to "balance" Scripture with other sources of information -- even in an attempt to somehow expand and enlighten ourselves -- is a sinful disobedience we must repent of.
We become an idolatrous people, subtly subverting the authority of Scripture with other sources of so-called knowledge.

The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. Many of them therefore believed...

Church on the Hill is committed to listening to Jesus through the Scriptures -- receiving the Words of Jesus to remember He has reconciled us to Himself by the blood of his cross, to equip us for service, to encourage us by His faithfulness, and to test everything according to the standard of His Holiness.  Many folks at Church on the Hill have taken the Elijah Challenge, and we'd encourage you to do the same.

Reality: We believe scripture tells us the truth about who God is, who we are, and the reality of our situation

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, [Jesus] explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. (Luke 24:27)

Rebirth: We believe Jesus is the only means for a new beginning and continued renewal

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior (Titus 3:5-6)

Ripen: We believe it is vital to continue growing and to bear fruit as disciples of Jesus Christ

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:4-5)

Relationship: We believe in a life of community – with God, family, church and neighborhood

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free — and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. (1 Cor. 12:12-13)

Radiate:We believe God commands all disciples to be ministers and missionaries

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)
