"If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John 8:31-32
According to the Scripture, discipleship is a life in Jesus, listening to His word and obeying all that He commanded. Discipleship is often thought to be a program of learning the basics of faith with a graduation when one has completed a curriculum. However, Jesus gives us a clear picture of discipleship in the Scriptures as people pointing each other to Jesus through the Scriptures.
The Lord has those at Church on the Hill sit at His feet, listening to His Word by studying scripture together. There are no credentials needed other than coming as beggars. There is no formal application one needs to submit, only submission to His authority in the Scriptures. There are no hoops to jump through, no educational prerequisites, no age (or height) requirements, and no books to purchase.
If Jesus has told us to be listening to Him in Scripture together and living according to His Word, then we are to obey...period. Who might Jesus be telling you to sit in Scripture with?
Reality: We believe scripture tells us the truth about who God is, who we are, and the reality of our situation
And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, [Jesus] explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. (Luke 24:27)
Rebirth: We believe Jesus is the only means for a new beginning and continued renewal
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior (Titus 3:5-6)
Ripen: We believe it is vital to continue growing and to bear fruit as disciples of Jesus Christ
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:4-5)
Relationship: We believe in a life of community – with God, family, church and neighborhood
The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free — and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. (1 Cor. 12:12-13)
Radiate:We believe God commands all disciples to be ministers and missionaries
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)
